DMM

The DMM (Differential Mixing Model) uses the fundamental principles governing the PGCA modelling method in the form of equations that accelerate further the calculation process.

DMM modelling in basic free flow situations delivers results that are very similar to PGCA results. However, it cannot account for the more complex flow mechanisms which can be simulated in PGCA, such as fines migration, rilling, and the effects of cave back propagation.

Nevertheless, it has been shown to calibrate well to real mine situations where these more complex flow processes are not a significant factor in flow behavior. The graph shown on the left indicates correlation between grades in PGCA and DMM for a major panel caving mine with a variation of less than 2% over the life of mine.

A typical DMM model requires less than 10 seconds to simulate the life of mine production for the largest caving mine.

This speed of calculation makes it very useful in processes where many modelling runs are required e.g. sensitivity studies, batch modelling and optimization.
